SOLAR ELECTRIC THEORY, CODES, CALCULATIONS, DESIGN AND INSTALLATION PROGRAM

INSTITUTO MONTERROSA SOLAR APLICATION 2016

This training course establishes fundamental concepts required for safe, code compliant design and installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems with a focus on residential-sized grid direct solar electric systems.  The goal of the program is to create a fundamental understanding of the care concepts necessary to work with all PV systems, including:  system components, site analysis, PV module (panels) criteria, mounting solutions, safety and commissioning.  The course will cover the basicS of sizing residential grid-direct systems, wire sizing, overcurrent protection and grounding in compliance with the 2011 National Electric Code.

With the classroom knowledge acquired in the first 7 weeks the students will proceed to an intensive and rigorous 5 weeks hands-on installation of various grid-direct systems at the PV lab training facility in San Francisco.  The students will be divided into small groups and install a complete PV system on 4 steep roofs.  Students will learn lockout/tagout procedures to create a safe working environment and practice using an assortment of meters to test PV systems.

In order to enroll in the Solar Program, all students must either pass a written examination to demonstrate proficiency and understanding of electric theory, codes, calculations with a grade of 85% or better or enroll in the 12 week commercial & residential electrical codes, calculations, theory and hands on training course.

Gracias!

INSTITUTO MONTERROSA DE ELECTRICIDAD Y SOLAR

EDUCATING & TRAINING IN THE ELECTRICAL & SOLAR TRADES SINCE 2008

El Instituto Monterrosa de Electricidad y Solar is a bilingual instruction center for those who want to learn the electrical and solar trades.  Our programs are designed to allow anyone interested in learning these trades or already working in these trades to improve their lives by allowing them to get a new job in the electrical and solar trades, create their own small business, or improve upon their knowledge to maintain competitive in the labor market.

In collaboration with Construction Craft Training Center, we offer electrical and solar programs.  All programs which are accredited by the State of California and approved and recognized by the Department of Apprenticeship Standards.  Our founder, owner and main professor, Mario Monterrosa, has more than 43 years of experience as an electrician and electrical contractor, 27 years of experience giving classes at City College of San Francisco, the electrical union here in San Francisco, and 7 years of experience teaching and directing Instituto Monterrosa with a California teaching credential.  Through all this experience and with the help of teaching aids, Professor Monterrosa posseses the knowledge and effective methods to teach those interested in these trades.

Although the programs are English-Spanish bilingual, all electrical codes and theories, designs, mathematics, calculations, formulas, and hand-on training are explained in both Spanish and English.  All textbooks, hand outs and examinations are in English.  We are always prepared to respond to any student questions in Spanish to help those who require more help in their native language.  The prerequisites for the programs are basic and all are welcome – men, women, beginners to advanced!

Please call 415.368.1608 to schedule a tour of Instituto Monterrosa and discuss the prices of the various programs.  Thank you!

NOTA:

NOTE:

Although Mr. Monterrosa designs and plans each study program at Instituto Monterrosa, he uses teacher’s aids to help teach and attend to the students in each program. The program schedules may change due to unforeseen circumstances.  More class instruction time may be required if the instructor determines that additional instruction is required to explain a particularly difficult concept.  This extra time may require longer classes or adding more class meetings to a program schedule.  Each course require a minimum number of students to register for the course to begin.  If the minimum is not reached, the class will be rescheduled when the minimum number of students are registered.
